The Daniel Alexander Payne Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) program has facilitated and fostered our Girls Who Code Club (GWC) Chapter since 2017. The GWC Sisterhood has more than 8,500 clubs around the world and more than 500,000 members. Members are in grades 3-12. The Mission of GWC is to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does. Role models give students confidence that they can do more than dream about creating computer applications, they can learn and enjoy.
With coding, members learn how to create things such as websites and computer games. GWC emphasizes real world relevance and impact by showing girls that they can use computer science to change the world while highlighting real world examples through inspirational female role models.
Through things they learned through GWC, their computer dreams can become reality and they can also enjoy “bigger dreams”. All this is done at no cost to the members.
To become a member of our Chapter, all that is needed is to contact Cristol Primas cprimas@msn.com
