FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT
The CDC, in collaboration with Metropolitan AME Church, has partnered with organizations and professionals to help residents of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (the DMV) metropolitan area and Baltimore improve their financial literacy, empower themselves financially, and create and perpetuate wealth for themselves, their families, and their communities. Since November 5, 2011, these programs have attracted, collectively, over 2,500 participants.
Participants in the CDC’s financial empowerment programs receive valuable information about saving, investing, tax and estate planning, home ownership, real estate investment, and the intersection between fiscal and physical health.
The CDC’s two primary financial empowerment programs are:
The Moneywise Financial Empowerment Summit, produced in collaboration with PBS-TV’s Moneywise with Kelvin Boston; and
Achieving Financial Security: A Community Forum, produced in collaboration with the National Capital Area Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals.
ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Metropolitan AME church is a community leader in DC, partnering with other faith-based institutions to organize residents to help them advocate for quality healthcare, education, affordable safe housing, and family sustaining jobs. As a result of Metropolitan AME's programs, the CDC has an understanding and awareness of community issues, concerns, and needs. We bring this knowledge and our experiences to partnerships for community and economic development.
To address the affordable housing crisis in DC, our vision is to help improve the economic and social quality of life of residents. To achieve this vision, we will help develop affordable rental units and homes for residents and create strategic collaborative partnerships with other nonprofits to help improve the economic and social quality of life for residents and to create long-term community stability.
